Third Friendsgiving - Neighbors Enjoy Bounty!

The early October weather was beautiful and encouraged residents to join their neighbors at the Community Clubhouse for the Third Annual Hanford Baykeepers Friendsgiving. Fifty-eight attendees filled the hall and brought with them their desire to have a good time and to share their wide variety of wonderful side dishes and desserts to accompany the main course of delicious turkey , dressing and gravy from the Colony Restaurant. Also, the evening offered an opportunity to see and talk to residents of the Bay who were attending Friendsgiving for the first time!

Everyone’s good spirits were infectious and throughout the evening laughter and lively conversations could be heard everywhere.

It was interesting to watch people on their way to fill their plates spend time looking at the fabulous bulletin board of photos gathered from previous Hanford Baykeeper events. Many of them probably found images of themselves or others that they know participating in past events..

Soon after all had enjoyed the main course, a member of the Hanford Baykeepers Committee briefly spoke about this year’s other events such as the two Shoreline Sweeps. Each one was successful in that there was good involvement of fellow residents and visitors and they collected large amounts of plastics and other waste materials. Such materials will no longer threaten the environment. The Committee member also announced our plans to offer an event next year focused on helping educate children in how they can help protect the environment. Lastly, the speaker reminded the attendees that the Committee’s work to offer educational events, maintain this website, and provide the Friendsgiving Dinner rely to a great extent on donations. Thanks was given for the ongoing support of the residents, because all of them are Baykeepers too!

The evening’s good times continued for some time as everyone helped themselves to the great assortment of desserts and resumed their lively conversations. Of course, the time came for the evening to end and slowly people gathered their belongings and went home.

Down below are photos from the dinner. Take a moment to look at them. Simply click one by one on the line of images.

Finally, a friendly reminder that the Hanford Baykeepers Committee members are dedicated to helping educate fellow residents and local community members about how to reduce, reuse, recycle, repair and eliminate plastic waste (especially single-use plastic items) and other forms of materials impacting Lake Erie and the environment.
